Dr. Topol, a cardiologist, professor and author, has amassed 135,000 followers on Twitter, where he frequently shares insights related to digital health. Dr. Topol’s newest book, titled Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Revolutionize Health Care — And Make It More Humane, will be his third, after The Creative Destruction of Medicine and The Patient Will See You Now.
Deep Medicine will tackle how AI has the potential to fix the “broken” physician-patient relationship by improving efficiency of clinical documentation and medical diagnosis, among other tasks.
“Doctors are too distracted and overwhelmed to truly connect with their patients, and medical errors and misdiagnoses abound,” reads a description of the book posted to Amazon. “By freeing physicians from the tasks that interfere with human connection, AI will create space for the real healing that takes place between a doctor who can listen and a patient who needs to be heard.”
Deep Medicine is slated for publication March 12, 2019.
