Dr. Shulkin made this announcement March 21 at a Politico event in Washington, D.C. However, he stressed this timeframe only relates to when the VA will determine its “strategic direction;” that is, whether to move forward with its current homegrown VistA EHR platform or to replace it with a commercial offering.
“That is not the same as saying that if we do decide to move to a commercial system that we will decide which system to use or the process on how we’re going to make that decision,” Dr. Shulkin said, according to FedScoop. “This is a lengthy process. These are complex issues. We are not going to rush into things.”
