The new EHR system, which is called MHS Genesis, has been in development for almost four years. The system uses a commercial platform by Cerner as part of a $4.3 billion DOD contract awarded to Leidos, Cerner and Accenture in July 2015.
MHS Genesis was initially scheduled to go live at four locations in December 2016; however, in early September 2016, the DOD pushed back the go-live date to 2017. The delay, according to FCW.com, allowed the Defense Healthcare Management Systems to integrate additional features in the EHR.
“I can report firsthand from the command center that everything is going as expected,” said Stacy Cummings, the program executive officer for Defense Healthcare Management Systems, according to FCW.com. “Providers at Fairchild are treating patients while the government and contractor team are quickly implementing fixes to issues as they are identified.”
