Layoffs also hit the company’s self-driving car unit, Waymo, and its news division, Google News.
An Alphabet Workers Union spokesperson reported to CNBC that an estimated 40 to 45 workers in Google News have lost their jobs, but the spokesperson didn’t know the actual number. A Google spokesperson confirmed the cuts to the publication but also didn’t provide a number.
The move comes as Google looks to reduce costs. In January, the tech giant laid off 12,000 employees, equating to 6% of its staff.
