According to an April 21 securities filings from the company, Mr. Pichai was granted $218 million in equities in 2022 through a triennial stock grant, while his annual salary was $2 million from 2020 to 2022.
In 2022, Mr. Pichai also received a compensation package that included about $6 million for personal security.
This comes after Mr. Pichai told Google staffers in July 2022 that the company would slow hiring for the rest of the year and focus on engineering, technical and other critical roles for the remainder of 2022 and 2023 due to an uncertain global economy.
In January, the company laid off 12,000 workers.
