DirectTrust reports 24% increase in PHI sharing for 2016

DirectTrust, a personal health information exchange network, has reported 98 million message transactions across its network in 2016.

The primary use of message transactions was care coordination, followed by clinical messaging for referrals and alerts. Message transactions for administrative and research data communications have also been on the rise, according to David C. Kibbe, MD, DirectTrust president and CEO.

The number of healthcare organizations that DirectTrust serves increased 36 percent, representing growth from 52,000 at year-end 2015 to 71,000 at year-end 2016. Overall, the number of addresses able to share PHI across the DirectTrust network increased 24 percent in 2016, with an addition of more than 1.36 million addresses since the end of 2015.
