Mayo Clinic taps CIO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to lead analytics, digital efforts

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic has recruited John Halamka, MD, away from Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he serves as CIO, according to STAT.

Dr. Halamka will serve as the president of the Mayo Clinic platform. There, Dr. Halamka will focus on developing digital services and expanding Mayo Clinic’s analytics capabilities. His appointment takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.

At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Halamka hopes to create an “innovation factory.” Additionally, he plans to update privacy and security protocols, reports STAT. Mayo Clinic is looking to enhance its in-home healthcare services, digital diagnostics and clinical analytics.

His appointment comes on the heals of Mayo Clinic’s partnership with Google. With Google, Mayo will leverage the tech giant’s security tools and machine learning capabilities.
