Illumina is the highest-valued biotech company in San Diego, according to the report. The company is credited with driving down the cost of DNA sequencing to less than $1,000 with its HiSeq X Ten Sequencing System, for which it made headlines in 2014.
The company’s seven-acre complex is called the i3 campus — which stands for “iconic,” “innovative” and “inspired,” according to the report. Illumina has nearly 7,000 employees, 3,000 of whom work in San Diego.
