The data breach occurred after an employee of Advanced Data Processing, which handles the hospital’s ambulance billing system, illegally stole thousands of patients’ data from numerous hospitals nationwide, according to the report. Grady Memorial’s ambulance service patients’ records were compromised between mid-January and mid-October. Names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth may have been disclosed.
According to the report, the billing company has offered victims one year’s worth of free credit monitoring and is considering legal action against its former employee.
