Four things to know:

1. Bogus emails have been sent to remote workers that mimic emails sent by private branch exchange systems, a legacy phone system used to automate calls, record voicemails and forward the recordings to user inboxes.

2. The bogus emails direct users to click on a link that leads to a website aiming to steal the user’s credentials.

3. By mid-May, IronScales had identified the voice phishing campaign that targeted nearly 100,000 email inboxes, including those in the healthcare industry.

4. The scheme could affect healthcare workers if they have voicemail recordings automatically sent to their emails.
