Cameron (Mo.) Regional Medical Center discovered June 18 that it was the victim of a ransomware attack that may have exposed patients’ protected health information.
The hospital took steps to secure its systems and engaged third-party forensic specialists to investigate the incident’s scope, remediate the damage and restore access. The investigation remains ongoing, the hospital said in an Aug. 17 notification.
Information potentially affected includes patient names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, medical diagnosis and treatment details, dates of treatment, provider names, patient and agency identification numbers, treatment cost information, health insurance information and electronic signatures.
