Kettering (Ohio) Health has restored the core components of its Epic EHR system after a ransomware attack hit the organization May 20.
Here are five things to know:
- Clinical staff began using the EHR system at 7 a.m. June 2, after core functionalities went live an hour earlier, according to an update on Kettering Health’s website.
- More than 200 individuals—including Kettering Health’s internal technology and clinical teams, along with staff from Epic—collaborated to bring the system back online.
- With the relaunch, clinicians regained access to tools essential for managing patient information, coordinating care and communicating across departments, according to the health system.
- This follows the health system’s resumption of normal operations across all emergency departments, lifting a temporary diversion that had limited access to emergency care.
- In a letter to employees, Kettering Health CEO Mike Gentry acknowledged ongoing recovery efforts and cautioned about scam activity. “We’re aware of the possibility that individuals connected to our organization—employees, partners, or members of the community—may be targeted by scam communications,” Mr. Gentry said in the internal message. These attempts may involve emails, calls or texts claiming data exposure or attempting to solicit personal information, he said.
