Chicago-based Loretto Hospital’s computer systems were compromised by an unauthorized actor between Jan. 17 and Feb. 1, according to a breach notification from the hospital.
During this period, files were copied, and the hospital is working to determine their contents and the individuals affected.
Loretto Hospital reported the breach to HHS’ data breach portal, noting that 501 individuals were affected.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to information security, we are currently reviewing our policies and procedures, as well as assessing new cybersecurity tools, to reduce the risk of a similar incident occurring in the future,” the hospital said in the notification. “We also notified federal law enforcement and will be notifying relevant regulators, as required.”
