The council comprises more than 300 healthcare organization members, such as Cleveland Clinic, Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health, Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.

- The letter urged President Biden to invest in healthcare cybersecurity through the American Rescue Plan to assist in the healthcare sector, which is stretched to its limits to meet clinical and public health obligations.
- Cybersecurity threats jeopardize patient safety because they can cause denials of service, medical device disruption and data manipulations that affect operations, patient care and public health.
- The healthcare industry has struggled to make progress over the past several years because of continuous cyberthreats without federal programs or engagement. Organizations with fewer resources, such as critical access providers and small provider groups, continue to fall behind.
- In addition to cybersecurity requests, the council asked President Biden to increase Americans’ access to health insurance.
