A Georgia hospital has defeated a class-action lawsuit over the use of data-tracking tools on its websites, Law.com reported.

A state court granted Moultrie, Ga.-based Colquitt Regional Medical Center’s motion to dismiss the complaint, which alleged the hospital unlawfully collected patients’ protected health information and transmitted it to third parties like Meta’s Facebook, according to the May 6 article.

Dozens of health systems have been sued in recent years over the consumer behavior tracking tools, with some cases reaching settlements and others being dismissed. Defense counsel said the Georgia dismissal could dissuade other plaintiffs from suing healthcare organizations over their use of the “pixel” technology, per Law.com. Becker’s reached out to the hospital for comment.
