A former employee of New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine briefly accessed patient records for reasons unrelated to their job and without authorization.
The organization reported to HHS in late February that 516 patients were ensnared in the data breach, with information limited to contact information and the reason for their visits.
“The affected patients and appropriate authorities have been notified of the incident,” a Weill Cornell spokesperson emailed Becker’s on March 24. “We take the privacy and confidentiality of our patients’ information very seriously and have established additional measures to help prevent this issue from happening again.”
