Lewiston, Maine-based Central Maine Healthcare is notifying patients of a data breach that may have compromised sensitive personal and medical information.
The health system detected unusual activity in its information technology network on June 1 and launched an investigation.
The investigation, according to a July 31 news release, found that an unauthorized party accessed Central Maine Healthcare’s IT systems between March 19 and June 1. During that time, the intruder may have accessed or obtained files containing patient names, dates of birth, treatment details and diagnostic information.
On July 31, the health system began notifying affected patients.
Central Maine Healthcare urged those patients to review their medical and insurance statements and report any suspicious activity to their providers or insurers.
Central Maine Healthcare includes Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital.
