Marlborough, Mass.-based Boston Scientific identified a cybersecurity incident on Aug. 25 that triggered a network outage and caused a global disruption to the company’s operations.
The incident has limited access to certain operating systems and business applications, including the company’s ability to process and ship customer orders, the company disclosed in an Aug. 26 Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Boston Scientific activated its incident response protocols upon detection and brought in third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the threat. The investigation remains ongoing, and Boston Scientific has not determined a timeline for full restoration of affected systems.
The company said that the full scope, nature and financial impact of the incident are not yet known.
