The incident, confirmed in a Monday morning email to Becker’s, took place Thanksgiving weekend in a public hallway.
“Abbott Northwestern Hospital is diligent in security planning and performs ongoing review of its security policies and procedures. On Sunday, Nov. 26, as part of the hospital’s existing security measures, an employee reported a suspicious person to hospital security,” the statement reads. “Security officers responded, and the man was arrested for trespassing. At that time, a large camping knife and three small knives were found under his clothing. The man did not threaten staff or display the knives.”
Still, nurses have expressed concern about safety following the incident, according to Fox 9.
Allina said staff have been reminded to comply with existing security procedures, and hospital security and leadership are reviewing the incident to determine whether improvements to existing security procedures will occur.
