Hospira will use Cerner’s CareAware program, an interoperable communication platform, to connect its infusion pumps to the EMR at the point of care, allowing electronic association of patient, device and medication information. Cerner’s CareAware iBus solution allows infusion pumps to be automatically programmed with medication orders in the EMR, and it automatically documents infusion therapy data from the pump into the EMR.
“Through our work with Hospira, Cerner is helping provide caregivers the patient data they need to make more informed care decisions, which lead to better patient outcomes,” said Bryce Turnbull, vice president of Cerner DeviceWorks.
