Cerner policy director on Trump presidency: We won't 'see something that devalues the role of health IT'

Though numerous facets of today's healthcare environment may change with President-elect Trump's transition into office, Cerner Policy Director Meg Marshall believes one aspect will remain important: IT.

"We've still seen the same march toward increasing quality and reducing costs. Health IT is foundational toward that movement," Ms. Marshall said, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. "I don't think we're going to see something that devalues the role of health IT."

Ms. Marshall said with the increasing implementation of EHRs across the country, health systems will continue to value IT. In addition, she believes that hospitals may request additional IT tools as they become more accustomed to EHRs.

But the future of healthcare overall — including changes to the ACA and Medicaid — remains unclear. "As you can imagine, we're expecting the next six to 12 months to be fluid," Ms. Marshall said. "We're reading the tea leaves a little bit."
