California Hospitals Against EMR Track Changes

The California Hospital Association argued against a recent state bill that would require the ability to track when changes are made to electronic medical records, according to an IT Business Edge report.

California State Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) sponsored the bill in response to a patient who had her EMR altered after she died. Someone retroactively included notes and erased other relevant sections, the report said.

The CHA is contending that these new requirements would require healthcare providers to spend millions revising current electronic health record systems. It could also delay other providers from implementing their systems at all in time to meet meaningful use requirements, the report said.
