HM Health Solutions is a Pittsburgh company whose software is widely used by BCBS health plans. The insurer currently employs 230 IT workers, but transitioning to the third party IT provider may eliminate some of those positions.
BCBS will also transition their CoreLink Administrative Services subsidiary, which provides IT to health insurers and employs 227, to HM Health Solutions.
“This work is about moving to a market-leading platform with large national plan capabilities and innovation, while maintaining our local presence, governance and independence,” BCBS wrote in a memo to employees, according to Inforum.
BCBS executives are not yet sure how big of an impact the moves will have on the company. However, the transition will be gradual, taking about three to four years to phase out legacy systems.
