athenahealth, McKesson report quarterly growth; Apple nabs Google X co-founder; Cerner inks EHR contract — 7 health IT key notes

Here are seven recent news updates on key health IT companies

1. Yoky Matsuoka, PhD, an engineer who co-founded Google X, will join Apple to work on the company's health initiatives, including HealthKit, ResearchKit and CareKit.

2. For McKesson's fourth quarter of 2016, ended March 31, the company reported a slight 4 percent increase in revenue from the same quarter the previous year, but gross profit minimally decreased.

3. Phyzit, an app focused on helping providers with transitional care management, will join the athenahealth Marketplace.

4. GE Healthcare raised concerns that the recently proposed Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act gives the ONC more power than the agency was intended to have.

5. Allentown, Pa.-based Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network plans to implement Cerner's EHR and revenue cycle management solutions at three inpatient and more than 40 outpatient facilities. 

6. Medical Design Technologies is the latest company to join the Allscripts Developer Program, where it will use the Allscripts Open API to build integration tools.

7. For the first quarter of 2016, Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth grew its revenue 24 percent over the previous year's quarter and also reduced its total net loss for the quarter.
