Arizona hospital to deploy Allscripts’ precision medicine platform

Summit Healthcare, a Show Low, Ariz.-based hospital that recently went live on an Allscripts Sunrise EHR, has decided to implement the EHR vendor’s precision medicine platform 2bPrecise.

Summit Healthcare will deploy 2bPrecise as part of a precision medicine initiative focused on pharmacogenetics, an area of study dedicated to understanding the role a patient’s genetics plays in their response to different drugs.

Under the program, providers will have access to information about the potential efficacy and safety of various medications based on the individual’s genetic profile available at the point of care. “The use of the 2bPrecise pharmacogenomics platform allows Summit Healthcare to more precisely prescribe patient medications by using the patient’s genetic information to determine medication effectiveness,” Aaron Young, CIO of Summit Healthcare, said in a news release.

For example, one anesthesiologist at Summit Healthcare said pharmacogenetics information could inform up to 80 percent of the decisions that he makes about pre-surgical patient care.

In addition to improving clinical outcomes, Summit Healthcare officials said they expect the program to help the hospital manage costs and meet quality requirements as part of its participation in an ACO.
