Apple revamps syringe emoji to look like vaccine

Apple has redesigned the syringe emoji amid the largest vaccine rollout in U.S. history, reports The New York Times.

The emoji, which originally showcased blood coming from the syringe, is going to contain a blue substance and will roll out with Apple's iOS 14.5 update.

Eliminating the blood will make the emoji more versatile and less intimidating, according to Keith Broni, the deputy emoji officer at Emojipedia, an online emoji dictionary.

The syringe emoji was first designed in 1999 to illustrate blood donations and has often been used in discussions around blood donations or tattooing.

The vaccine emoji change is part of a series of COVID-19 emojis Apple has either designed or revamped, including a face mask and microbe.
