Apple nixes development of wireless charging pad

Apple will not release its wireless charging pad AirPower due to the company's inability to meet its own "high standards," TechCrunch reports.

The company confirmed March 29 that the product, which was first announced in September 2017, would be canceled. The project appears to have been canceled quickly because Apple's new AirPods, launched March 20, have mentions of AirPower on its cases and packaging, according to the report.

"After much effort, we've concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project," Apple Senior Vice President of Hardware and Engineering Dan Riccio said in an emailed statement to TechCrunch. "We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward."
