The Austin, Texas-based University of Texas System is expanding access to Abridge’s AI-powered clinical documentation and clinician intelligence platform through a new enterprisewide agreement.
The agreement, according to an Oct. 8 news release from Abridge, establishes a systemwide framework for UT health institutions to access the technology while allowing individual institutions to make their own implementation decisions.
The expansion follows a pilot launched in 2025 that included clinicians across five geographic locations, more than 50 medical specialties, and outpatient, inpatient and emergency department settings.
Over the past 12 months, the pilot recorded a 73% increase in clinicians using the technology to record encounters and an 80% increase in monthly notes, according to Abridge.
The agreement was coordinated through UT REAL Health AI, an initiative established in 2025 with legislative support and state funding to advance responsible AI adoption in healthcare.
The UT System includes institutions such as UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, UTHealth Houston and UT Health San Antonio. Its owned and affiliated hospitals and clinics collectively provided nearly 11.7 million outpatient visits and more than 2 million hospital days over the past year.
The agreement also establishes a foundation for potential future applications, including identifying gaps in care, streamlining administrative workflows with payers and supporting clinical trial matching.
Abridge said its technology will support more than 100 million patient-clinician conversations across more than 300 U.S. health systems in 2026.
