Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health is expanding its use of an artificial intelligence tool designed to support emergency department nurses and enhance patient safety across five additional hospitals.
The health system will now deploy KATE AI in seven of its emergency departments, according to an April 19 news release shared with Becker’s. The rollout includes emergency departments at HealthAlliance – Clinton Hospital’s Clinton and Leominster campuses, Harrington Hospital’s Southbridge and Webster campuses, and Marlborough Hospital.
The expansion builds on a pilot launched in February 2023 at the University and Memorial campuses of UMass Memorial Medical Center.
KATE AI, developed by Mednition, integrates with the health system’s Epic EHR and provides real-time clinical decision support during triage. The platform assists nurses in assessing patient acuity and identifying early signs of sepsis.
