U of Pittsburgh expands AI infrastructure to advance disease detection

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Pathology in Pennsylvania is expanding its AI infrastructure to support earlier and more accurate disease detection.

The initiative centers on the Computational Pathology and AI Center of Excellence, which will deploy Dell Technologies servers and data storage systems to scale analysis of medical images and clinical data, according to a May 6 news release shared with Becker’s.

The expanded infrastructure is intended to improve diagnostic speed and precision, particularly for diseases such as cancer, while enabling clinicians to make more informed treatment decisions.

University leaders said the investment will help expand existing AI tools and support new applications as health systems adopt technology to enhance pathology and precision medicine workflows.
