Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Health is expanding an AI and virtual care platform after a successful virtual nursing rollout.

The 12-hospital system plans a unified virtual command center that will leverage a solution from AI company Andor Health that includes AI agents for digital front door, virtual hospital, patient monitoring, care team collaboration, and transitions in care. Sentara has already debuted virtual nursing from Andor Health in 1,700 patient rooms.

“Since launching the virtual nursing program, we’ve provided over 1,360 hours of virtual care to our patients, which in turn allowed the bedside nurses an additional 1,360 hours to focus on what matters most — direct, face-to-face patient care,” said Jaime Carroll, RN, vice president of clinical support services at Sentara Health, in a May 1 news release. “Although we are early in our implementation, this increased patient-focused time has garnered positive comments from our patients, elevated the quality of care, improved documentation, and enhanced discharge planning, ultimately driving better outcomes for patients.”
