Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic is collaborating with Scale AI to develop and deploy clinical AI applications aimed at reducing administrative burden and improving patient safety.
The partnership focuses on three areas: streamlining clinical documentation review before patient visits, automating detection of safety events such as wrong-site surgeries or falls, and helping Mayo staff work at the top of their license. Since the tools launched, physicians have gained an average of 11 more minutes with each patient while maintaining an expert standard of care, per Scale AI.
“Ultimately, this work is about helping patients by using innovation to deliver more timely, coordinated and compassionate care,” said Matthew Callstrom, MD, PhD, AI medical director at Mayo Clinic, in a July 15 Scale AI blog post. “This collaboration combines each organization’s expertise to advance care delivery and patient experience.”
Data used in the collaboration remains within Mayo Clinic’s HIPAA-compliant environment, according to Scale AI, which said its systems are built to meet data security and regulatory standards. The companies plan to expand the effort into additional clinical applications over time.
