Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health reduced documentation time and improved clinician satisfaction after deploying Microsoft’s Dragon Copilot across its system in the fall.
The health system began piloting the ambient AI tool in July and launched a full rollout in September, according to a March 4 news release from Microsoft. As of December, more than 2,500 clinicians used the technology, which is integrated into Intermountain’s Epic EHR to generate real-time clinical notes.
According to internal data, 2,285 clinicians using the platform in 10 or more encounters saw a 27% reduction in time spent in notes per appointment. Leaders cited reduced cognitive burden, better patient engagement and increased work-life balance as key outcomes.
Intermountain partnered with Accenture to design a high-touch training and adoption strategy. During the 13-week implementation, more than 1,400 staff participated in virtual and in-person training sessions.
