The American Hospital Association is backing federal guidance on safely integrating AI into operational technology.
Before incorporating AI into operational technology environments, organizations should understand its potential risks and impacts, outline the business case, stand up governance and assurance models, and implement safety and security practices, according to the Dec. 3 publication from agencies including the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, National Security Agency’s AI Security Center and FBI.
“This guidance can inform hospitals in their efforts to safely and securely integrate AI tools in physical plant activities like energy control, HVAC, life-safety systems, door access controls, physical security systems and alarms,” said John Riggi, AHA national advisor for cybersecurity and risk, in a Dec. 8 news release.
