Health systems are moving agentic AI beyond pilot projects, scaling voice agents and autonomous workflows across call centers, scheduling, pharmacy operations and clinical support.
Here are eight recent examples spanning 12 health systems:
1. WellSpan Health (York, Pa.) expanded its multiyear partnership with Hippocratic AI on July 30, transitioning from single use cases to a platformwide deployment across inbound, outbound, ambulatory and inpatient care. WellSpan’s generative AI voice agent, “Ana,” already handles more than 160,000 patient calls a month and 7,000 hours of conversation. The expansion adds proactive outbound outreach for missed imaging appointments, postdischarge follow-ups and chronic disease check-ins, plus a Hippocratic AI Orchestrator to help care teams navigate care plans. Hippocratic AI is embedding an on-site engineering and clinical team at WellSpan’s York campus to codevelop the tools.
2. MUSC Health (Charleston, S.C.) broadened “Emily,” its AI agent built on SoundHound AI’s agentic platform, into retail and specialty pharmacy operations, the company said July 29. The Epic-integrated deployment — one of the first agentic voice implementations on an Epic system — now handles prescription refill requests, refill status updates, pharmacy hours and location lookups, and routes patients to pharmacy staff when needed. Emily has supported more than 2.2 million patient calls since MUSC first deployed it in 2024 for appointment management.
3. UNC Health (Chapel Hill, N.C.) partnered with Hippocratic AI to launch AI-supported inbound phone services, the startup said April 24. The 20-hospital system is starting with primary care appointment scheduling and calls into its specialty pharmacy call center, with plans to expand to additional services over time.
4. Cincinnati Children’s, OhioHealth (Columbus) and Cleveland Clinic codeveloped Hippocratic AI’s Nurse Co-Pilot, an AI voice assistant for inpatient nurses that launched April 16 covering admission education, patient education, caregiver engagement and medication adherence — workflows Hippocratic AI says can return one to four hours per nurse, per shift. Cincinnati Children’s, a Hippocratic AI partner since 2024, is also among the first health systems deploying the company’s AI Front Door.
5. Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital partnered with Hyro to roll out voice AI agents in its contact center, cutting call abandonment by 56% (from 34% to 14.9%), reducing average wait times by 58% (from 6.2 to 2.4 minutes) and increasing scheduled appointments by 21% within weeks of launch. The system is expanding the agents into end-to-end scheduling for additional specialties.
6. Ochsner Health (New Orleans) is investing in what Timothy Riddell, MD, executive vice president and COO, calls “agentic support” in its patient contact centers — AI agents that act autonomously to complete scheduling tasks, resolve access questions and route patients to care without human intervention at every step. Ochsner is also using AI to manage appointment inventory and capacity in real time so open slots are visible and bookable as patients search.
7. Intermountain Health (Salt Lake City) paired Hyro’s conversational AI agents with Salesforce’s Agentforce Health to automate scheduling, password resets and other repetitive patient access tasks, with real-time integration into Epic and full-context handoffs to live agents. The deployment automated 44% of repetitive calls, let 79% of patients self-serve successfully online, and cut call abandonment 85% — work that earned Hyro a 2025 Salesforce Partner Innovation Award.
8. Sutter Health (Sacramento, Calif.), Prisma Health (Columbia, S.C.) and Piedmont Healthcare (Atlanta) are among more than 45 health systems now running Hyro’s Responsible AI Agent platform, which the company says collectively engages more than 30 million patients and can resolve up to 85% of routine patient interactions. Hyro raised a $45 million strategic growth round to expand the platform’s reach into proactive outreach and clinical workflow automation across the patient lifecycle.
