Deepfake physicians created by AI are popping up on social media, often endorsing unproven treatments.
The American Medical Association released seven key policy principles for preventing AI-generated physicians from proliferating, according to a May 11 news release:
1. Make physician identity a protected right
2. Prohibit deceptive medical impersonation.
3. Create informed, opt-in and revocable consent.
4. Require labeling and transparency for AI-generated content.
5. Share responsibility for prevention among health systems and tech companies.
6. Enable practical remedies for enforcement.
7. Minimize administrative burden for protection.
