Three health systems have recently been using Google AI for tasks such as streamlining previsit histories and identifying reasons for disease outbreaks.
Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, for instance, is testing Google’s Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer, aka AMIE, a multiagent system the tech giant says can interpret and reason using health histories, lab results and medical images, according to a March 17 Google Research blog post. The hospital is analyzing how the AI can lower the burden of previsit history-taking while flagging urgent symptoms.
Meanwhile, researchers at New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and Boston Children’s Hospital are combining Google Earth AI data with surveys to estimate MMR vaccine rates for young children, down to the ZIP-code level, per the blog post. The researchers spotted clusters of undervaccination that lined up with recent measles outbreaks, giving public health teams a tool for proactive local outreach.
