The rates are highest among large hospitals, with 96 percent attesting. Small rural hospitals and medium hospitals follow with 93 and 92 percent attesting, respectively, according to iHealthBeat.
Pediatric hospitals lag the furthest behind at 57 percent attestation. However, they also started the meaningful use program later than general acute-care hospitals, according to the report.
The penalties for lack of attestation to meaningful use begin this year. All eligible professionals and eligible hospitals are required to attest to meaningful use stage 3 by 2018, at which time the whole program will be merged into one level instead of the three-stage system.
