5 will advance in MIT, MGH & Samsung’s health IT innovation challenge

Samsung Electronics, Cambridge-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital have awarded preliminary prizes to five teams participating in the organizations’ innovation challenge.

The challenge, a “hackathon,” featured 21 teams and engineers creating healthcare solutions for wearable health devices. A panel of 10 judges selected the following winners, who divided a $6,000 prize and are now eligible to compete for a portion of the $500,000 Samsung Healthcare Innovation Grant, according to a report from the Herald.

First place/crowd pick: ETHER

Operating room managers receive real-time data from anesthesia providers, who send it from their wearables.

Second place: Clean

Combines healthcare provider location data with data from “smart” hand sanitizer stations to track healthcare-acquired infection protocol compliance.

Third place: Migraine Trackz

Allows migraine patients to track their migraine triggers through sensor-enabled personal and environmental data collection.

Samsung pick: FitFriend

Digital, interactive character supports pediatric wellness, reminding kids to stay active and eat right.

MGH pick: CADI

Voice-activated EHR allows faster access to patient information.
