5 Best Practices of AHA’s “Most Wired” Hospitals

Hospitals & Health Networks, the flagship publication of the American Hospital Association, has released its annual list of the “Most Wired” hospitals.

“This year’s Most Wired organizations exemplify progress through innovation” said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association, in a news release. “The hospital field can learn from these outstanding organizations ways that IT can help to improve efficiency.”

Some practices shared by the winning hospitals include:

  1. Use of an electronic disease registry (71 percent)
  2. Electronic medication order entry by physicians (69 percent)
  3. Sharing of patient discharge data with affiliated hospitals (66 percent)
  4. Providing a patient portal or web-based solution for patient-generated data (41 percent)
  5. Use of controlled experiments or scenario planning to make better decisions (32 percent)
