100M remote patient monitoring devices to ship over next 5 years

Nearly 100 million remote patient monitoring devices are expected to ship over the next five years, according to ABI Research.

An ABI Research news release indicates there are increasing opportunities to collect data from devices and share it with patients, providers and payers. Brand name companies like Apple, Google and Samsung are also revealing platforms for remote patient monitoring services, contributing to the devices expected to ship.

Additionally, patients are increasing their interest in wireless connectivity for clinical medical devices such as glucose monitors, seeking ease of use and data sharing, according to the release.

Barriers to remote patient monitoring device growth include device availability, service regulation and obstacles for new players to enter the market, according to the release.
