10 IT priorities for 2015

While cybersecurity remains a key focus for organizations across industries, it isn't the No. 1 IT priority for the year, according to a Protiviti survey of 1,000 IT professionals.

Here are the top 10 reported IT priorities for 2015 including ties, according to Protiviti's 2015 IT Survey. Results are based on a "Priority Index," which is on a 10-point scale, where 1 is a low priority and 10 is a significant priority.

1. Virtualization (7.3 priority index)

2. Virus/malware advanced threat detection/eradication (7.1)

3. Data breach and privacy laws (7.0)

3. Enterprise architecture (7.0)

3. Incident response success (7.0)

3. Monitoring security events (7.0)

4. Data architecture (6.9)

4. Data governance (6.9)

4. Incident response policy and preparedness (6.9)

4. Incident response reaction time (6.9)

4. IT project management (6.9)

4. Patch management (6.9)

4. Vulnerability scanning (6.9)

"These trends are…evident throughout this year's results, which show that IT leaders and professionals are contending with a vast number of increasing and competing priorities, including but not limited to cybersecurity," according to the report.

The survey collected responses from more than 1,000 CIOs, IT vice presidents and IT directors from various industries.
