Walgreens has expanded its virtual care platform to include weight management services, offering $49 clinician-guided visits for eligible adults using GLP-1 therapies.
The new Walgreens Weight Management program is open to self-pay patients ages 18-64 who are overweight or have obesity, according to a Feb. 26 news release from the company. Through the platform, patients can access licensed physicians and nurse practitioners for video evaluations, medication prescriptions and ongoing support. Follow-up visits are available via chat or video between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Central time seven days a week.
Eligible patients may be prescribed FDA-approved GLP-1 medications for weight loss. Walgreens also updated its Rx Savings Finder to include Novo Nordisk’s reduced pricing for Wegovy, with prices starting at $149 per month. The program is available in 30 states and does not require a subscription.
Health systems have also expanded weight management programs as demand for GLP-1 therapies grows. By 2030, 51% of the world’s population — or 4 billion people — is expected to have obesity. Systems including Mayo Clinic, based in Rochester, Minn., and WVU Medicine, based in Morgantown, W.Va., have expanded medical weight management and telehealth offerings, citing strong patient demand and rapid growth in the GLP-1 market.
