Three things to know:
1. NIH gave grants to four institutions to run the study:
- University of Kentucky (Lexington)
- Boston Medical Center
- Columbia University (New York City)
- Ohio State University (Columbus)
2. Each institution will partner with at least 15 communities to study the use of evidence-based prevention, treatment and recovery interventions for opioid use disorder. Initiatives will include boosting access to naloxone, connecting people to treatment and improving pain management.
3. The study aims to decrease overdose deaths in these communities by 40 percent in three years. The ultimate goal is to develop a treatment model that could be scaled nationally.
