The $1 million donation will establish the Savvy Ferentz Program in Neonatal Research, which is in honor of the Ferentz’s grandchild, who died after a premature birth.
“This gift from the Ferentzes will help us capitalize on our strengths, advance our research, and, most important, make an impact on the lives of many Iowa children and their families, now and far into the future,” Jeffery Segar, MD, a pediatrics professor for UI Carver College of Medicine and former director of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s neonatology division, told The Gazette.
