The AMA argued ICD-10 will be costly to implement, estimating costs for a physician’s practice could range from $83,290 to more than $2.7 million depending on the size of the practice.
Additionally, the AMA said the timing of ICD-10 “could not be worse” as physicians are also installing electronic health records.
ICD-10 has already been delayed once — CMS delayed implementation from Oct. 1, 2011, to the current deadline — but CMS has said it does not expect to delay ICD-10 implementation again.
