Texas long-term care hospital to close, affecting 175 jobs

Select Medical Holdings Corp., based in Mechanicsburg, Pa., will close its Select Specialty Hospital – Houston West location, according to a Houston Business Journal report.

Select Medical Holdings is expected to shut down the hospital on or within 14 days of June 2. The closure will affect 175 jobs.

“Though we are saddened by it, closing the hospital was a necessary business decision,” a spokesman said, according to the report. “We are deeply grateful to our dedicated employees and to the medical community at large for their support over the years.”

Last year, the company also closed Select Specialty Hospital – Houston Heights, which affected 222 jobs.

As of Dec. 31, Select operated 109 long-term acute care hospitals, 18 acute medical rehabilitation hospitals and 1,038 outpatient rehabilitation clinics nationwide, according to the report.
