Texas Health Resources rating unchanged despite Ebola death at Dallas hospital

Despite operating the hospital at which a patient died of Ebola, Arlington-based Texas Health Resources’ rating from Standard & Poor’s Rating Services has been left unchanged, according to a report by The Bond Buyer.

THR operates Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas which experienced a 20 percent dip in patient volumes and a negative revenue impact of approximately $8.1 million immediately following the admission and Ebola diagnoses of Thomas Eric Duncan on Sept. 28, according to the report.

Adding to the hospital’s financial troubles, two nurses who worked at Texas Health Presbyterian with Mr. Duncan contracted the virus, both of whom have since been declared free of the disease.

Even so, patient volumes at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas are beginning to pick back up since the diversion of ambulances to other hospitals ended. An S&P analyst predicts THR’s current “AA” rating will remain the same given the system’s successfully remarketed and tendered variable rate bonds and strong profile.
