The planned cuts come in response to operating losses plaguing the system in recent years. Temple lost $116 million on operations in fiscal 2008 and predicts losses of approximately $100 million this fiscal year.

The losses were largely caused by a reduction in the number of patients discharged from the four hospitals in the system and an increase in the number of patients covered by Medicaid, according to the report.
