In February 2012, WEDI surveyed more than 2,600 healthcare providers, health plans and vendors to assess how ready the industry was for ICD-10. The results of the survey include:
• Roughly 50 percent of providers indicated they did not know when they would complete their ICD-10 impact assessment.
• About 33 percent of providers expected to start external testing in 2013, although another half did not know when they would start external testing.
• Most health plans said they do not expect to begin external testing until 2013, less than one year from the now-delayed Oct. 1, 2013 compliance date.
• Fifty percent of vendors are less than halfway complete with ICD-10 product development.
